The guests were warmly welcomed by the college management and faculty members, setting the stage for an informative and engaging educational experience.
The event commenced with Tamil Thai Vazhthu and the ASET College Prayer Song, followed by the welcome address delivered by students of the Diploma in Fire and Industrial Safety programme. The sessions highlighted the significance of maintaining food quality, preventing contamination and identifying possible food adulteration. The invited officials shared valuable insights into food safety regulations, consumer responsibilities and the importance of checking product labels, packaging conditions, manufacturing and expiry dates, and FSSAI licence or registration details before purchasing food products.
A major highlight of the programme was the practical demonstration of food adulteration awareness tests using commonly consumed products such as milk, chilli powder, pepper, cream biscuits, Gems and candy. These demonstrations helped students understand how preliminary checks can raise awareness about possible adulteration and why suspected cases require appropriate scientific testing for confirmation. The sessions also emphasised safe food storage, personal hygiene, clean utensils, proper food handling and the importance of purchasing food products from reliable sources.
The programme further featured a traditional, natural and nutritional food exhibition, where students presented a variety of food preparations. The invited guests visited the food stalls, interacted with students and observed the ingredients, preparation methods and nutritional value of the displayed dishes. The exhibition encouraged students to appreciate traditional food practices, fresh ingredients and balanced nutrition while understanding the importance of hygiene and safety during food preparation and serving.
In their addresses, the food safety officials emphasised the importance of public awareness and responsible consumer behaviour. Students were introduced to the role of the DART (Detect Adulteration with Rapid Test) initiative in spreading awareness about common food adulteration concerns. The speakers also explained the importance of proper food packaging, accurate labelling and appropriate procedures for reporting suspected adulterated or unsafe food. The sessions encouraged students to become food safety ambassadors and share their learning with their families and communities.
The programme also included student-centred activities such as a reels competition, poster-making and a mime performance based on food safety concepts. These activities encouraged creativity, teamwork and effective communication while helping students convey important food safety messages in engaging ways. The distinguished guests were felicitated by the college representatives in recognition of their valuable presence, professional guidance and contribution to the programme.
The Food Safety Awareness Programme 2026 was an enriching learning experience that connected classroom knowledge with practical applications. Through expert interactions, demonstrations, food exhibitions and student activities, ASET College reinforced the importance of safe food choices, hygienic practices and informed consumption. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and the National Anthem, leaving students with a stronger understanding of their role in promoting safe food, healthy lives and a more informed society.
